Heavy rainfall possible today in Central New York, weather service says

Syracuse, NY - Locally heavy rainfall is possible today throughout Central New York, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for the region all day today and tonight. Where there is heavy rainfall, isolated flash flooding also is possible, the weather service said.

A few of the thunderstorms rolling through the region could be strong to severe with gusty to damaging winds, the weather service says.

The forecast calls for a slight chance of showers late this morning, followed by a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Other than that, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 84.

New rainfall amounts could be between a quarter and half of an inch, the weather service said.

Behind the front this afternoon, drier air is expected to come in and last into Monday. Dry weather will bring clearer skies. Thunderstorms are possible Monday afternoon.
